What Curriculum does BCS use?
BCS uses ABEKA ( K3-K, 1st Grade Phonics), Wordly Wise (4th-12th Vocabulary), and BJU Press.

How many students are allowed per class?
As a general rule 20 is the maximum in elementary and 25 maximum in secondary school. Most classes are much smaller.

What is the length of the school day?
K3/K4:  8:00-2:45pm M-Th, 8:00-1:45pm Friday
K4/K5:  8:00-2:45pm M-Th, 8:00-1:45pm Friday
K-5th grade: 8:00-2:45pm M-Th, 8:00-1:45pm Friday
6th-12th grade: 8:00-2:50 pm M-Th, 8:00-1:50pm Friday

What sports does BCS offer?
High School sports include Soccer, Girls Volleyball, Basketball, Track.
Middle School sports include Co-Ed Soccer, Basketball, Co-Ed Volleyball, and Track.
Elementary: theCrossing offers a strong Upward Basketball & Cheer program in the spring

What is the faculty member requirements?
It is the policy of BCS to hire only committed Christian teachers that have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree, and are certified to teach. Many have advanced education degrees.

Does BCS have Chapel as well as Bible classes?
Bible is an integral part of the curriculum at BCS and is required subject in all grades. Students also have a chapel assembly each week.

Does BCS have a hot lunch program?
No. At this time BCS does not serve hot lunches. Students bring their own sack lunches. BCS provides microwaves for heat ups and opens a concession stand during lunch.

Does BCS offer an after-school program?
Yes. Check with front office for details.

Is BCS accredited?
Birchwood Christian School is registered with the Alaska Department of Education. We are also dually accredited with the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and AdvancEd.

What is the Dress Code for BCS?
Our main focus in supervising the appearance of students is that the students are clean, neat, and modest.  Students not meeting these standards will be required to change.
